Evaluating AI through a Pedagogy-First Lens: 2025 Language OER Conference

At this years fifth annual Language OER Conference sponsored by the Open Language Resource Center at the University of Kansas, Meredith Jacob and Will Cross discussed how generative AI may impact OER creation and how to evaluate when it may be useful and when it may be harmful. Specifically, they focused on the risks and benefits of machine translation, ways to structure teaching to ensure meaningful practice, and the role of language teachers critically evaluating these new technologies in their role as language experts.
